Need more proof that New Jersey is the greatest state in the union for pizza(Connecticut has one really good pizza town to carry their states relatively undeserved pizza reputation, and for as great as the places can be in the Big Apple, it doesn’t cover up that upstate New York is a pizza desert), how about the fact that you can get one of our state’s most well known pies at a farmers market (granted, the Columbus farmers market is the biggest and best in Jersey). Kate and Al’s have been around since the 50s and their style of pizza reflects their longevity. Their statewide famous Sicilian is almost like a hybrid between a thinner grandma style Sicilian and a Trenton tomato pie. The sauce was really savory and rich, it was delicious and the stand out trait of this pizza for me. Unlike a lot of grandma Sicilians, they use low moisture mozzarella versus the fresh mozzarella you normally come across, which is why it reminded me of a Trenton tomato pie, in addition to the sauce being on top of the cheese, which is also done on a lot of Sicilian pies as well. The base was light and fluffy, just how I love a Sicilian to be. The crust probably stood out the least, which is not necessarily bad thing, but I probably expected a little bit more crunch. Just off the sauce alone though, I have to give this pizza an 8 out of 10. It’s a great pie that’s definitely a must try while you’re at the incredible Columbus farmers market.
Absolutely love, love, love the pizza! I been going there since I was a kid and now I take my kids!! Kate & Al's pizza is my all time favorite! They also have a cherry cream soda that is not available on the shelves at the grocery stores or convenience stores! It goes great with the pizza too!
The pizza is genuinely so delicious and worth the wait and location inconveniences. I'm disappointed by all the ignorant customer service comments by people who don't understand the difficulties of working in this kind of environment. This place is in an absolutely massive, super crowded farmers market, in a tiny, hot space and placed in a corner where there is heavy foot traffic. Obviously the wait is going to be long, the scene is gonna be a little chaotic and the employees are very busy and don't have time to cater to everyone's specific demands. The super high demand for this pizza from the huge crowds of people that frequent this market is crazy for the size they are and they make it work. The pizza is great and they get the job done, that's all that matters and I wish more people respected that.
